Registration is off to a very strong start. We are thrilled to see so many friends returning to the TKPK5K! A few key updates:
TUESDAY, March 24 is our Mark's Kitchen fundraiser. Enjoy lunch and/or dinner at Mark's and 15% of the sale will be donated to support the TKPK5K and the PTAs at East Silver Spring, Takoma Park, Rolling Terrace and Piney Branch Elementary Schools and Takoma Park Middle School! Many thanks to Mark's for this donation in support of the safety, health and fitness of our students.
The one-mile race will be chip timed for the first time this year! All one-mile runners ages 14 and younger will be eligible to win medals based on net timed finish. Medals will be awarded in the following categories:
- Top boy and girl 11 to 14
- Top boy and girl 7 to 10
- Top boy and girl 6 and under
Please spread the word!!!
We couldn't stand the cold and felt that if we just pushed to open TKPK5K registration today, maybe we could hurry spring along a bit. It must have worked because the sun came out and temps climbed well above freezing!!! Please do your part and spread a bit of spring by telling everyone you know that REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN! Woohoo!!
As TKPK5K fans know, February not only means a Groundhog, Valentines, Presidents Day and COLD, but TKPK5K REGISTRATION!!!! We are working hard to pull in sponsorships and work through logistics so that we can open registration on or close to Thursday, February 26. Also, when registration opens, let's celebrate by pulling out and old TKPK5K t-shirt and wearing it proudly that day, or, at least, send your kid to school in one!!! Check back here or on Facebook (facebook.com/TKPK5K) or Twitter (@TKPK5K) for the latest. And as always, please tell your family, friends and colleagues about our awesome event!
As the cold weather begins to settle into the metro DC area, it's nice to start planning for the return of warm temps, flowers, and, of course, The Takoma Park Safe Routes to School 5K Challenge! The 2015 event will be our seventh and as in years past, proceeds from the event fund programs focusing on bike and pedestrian safety, health and fitness offered by the Parent Teacher Associations at Takoma Park, Piney Branch, Rolling Terrace and East Silver Spring Elementary Schools and Takoma Park Middle School. Running/walking clubs, recess equipment and direct bike and pedestrian safety education are some of the specific uses of race revenue over the past five years. The event itself is a super fun morning with three races including a 5k, a 1 mile and a 1/4 mile event just for our youngest participants. Planning is just getting underway so if you'd like to help raise money, support a school-based running club, promote registration or volunteer on race weekend, just let us know. And please, mark your calendars for Sunday, May 3!
